03.26.14Geeking Out On Readership Data

Blogging represents the overlap of three of my interests: writing, data and embarrassing proof reading errors.  I jot some thoughts–occasionally after considered rumination but more often quickly while the idea is burning and, really, just before my next meeting.  And then I get to see how people react. Do they read it? Do they comment?  Do their comments include really useful corrections of my usual spate of errors like the person who wrote to say “I think you mean ‘assess’ but you wrote ‘asses.'”  [Thank you, for that one specifically by the way].

Anyway, it’s fun to find out who reads and what they read so here is a fascinating (but well short of Harper’s Index) canter through the readership for the last 365 days on the Field Notes blog, including a special award for one anonymous but diligent reader!
Total # of countries (in some cases independent territories) visiting: 177. Hooray. And thank you especially to that brave reader out on the vanguard of education reform (not to mention the Ring of Fire) in Vanuatu.

Total US visits: 115k
Total UK visits 15k

Other nations with more than 1000 visits:

Australia (2.5k)
Canada (1.5k)
Netherlands (1.25k)

Rounding out the top ten for readership:

India
Chile
Germany
Spain
Russia

And #11:  Jordan.  Which still holds a special place in my heart and mind. Visited there a year and a half ago and think about its wonderful, brave, committed educators, many of them seeking to engage classrooms of 60+ students as they take in waves refugees from war-torn Syria.

One reader, somewhere, stuck with my interview with Daisy Christodoulou for 9 hours, seventeen minutes and thirty seconds. Especially interesting since I titled it “A Few Minutes with Daisy Christodoulou.”  Who are you, reader, and how do you sleep so soundly with your computer open?!

Well, only because the analysis tool doesn’t assess enthusiasm and positive mojo!
