02.27.14Our Behavior and Culture Workshop: No-Nonsense Fun That’s Seriously, Seriously Productive
We’re getting ready for our new two-day Behavior and Culture workshop in Tarrytown, New York on March 20th and 21st. This workshop presents our most up-to-date guidance on how to build strong classroom cultures based on high expectations for behavior and strong Systems and Routines. It will feature our latest insights, videos, and deep practice. Sounds so serious! But honestly, we’ll have a really good and geeky time figuring out how to make more teaching happen in the average classroom. What could be more fun than that?
Some of what’s new:
- More guidance on how to Build Radar, the ability to see behavior accurately and efficiently, and Be Seen Looking, drawing students’ attention (verbally and non-verbally) to the fact that you are looking for follow-through. We’ll practice “dance moves” that subtly and positively intimate to students that you are aware of whether they follow through. Have you tried going all tiptoes on your kids? It works!
- Deeper exploration on the Art of the Consequence to analyze methods that master teachers use to deliver consequences that improve behavior to create a positive and rigorous learning environment for their students. We’ll then apply the methods through our “Consequence Practice” And don’t worry upper grades; we’ll also explore how giving consequences looks different with older students!
- Brand new videos of teachers using Non-Verbal Interventions to address student behavior including an exemplar videos of Ashley Hinton, an ace 4th grade teacher, and North Star Academy’s Lucy Boyd delivering Non-Verbal Interventions to older kids in a tone and style that are just right. In fact, depending on when you last joined us, you’re likely to see as many as 10 or15 new videos. Maybe one of them is of you!
- As always, you’ll walk away with actionable resources, including videos (75+) with talking points, practice activities (includes remixed and updated classics like the Strong Voice Lay Up Drill–you’ll love our new rounds!) —as well as new activities like practicing dropping into and out of formal register to make corrections pop and, well, keep the joy.
- Did we mention the PIP (private individual praise) drill? Everyone loves the PIP Drill.
