03.11.15Watch the Videos from Ian Leslie’s Guardian Story (Video)
I spent some time with journalist Ian Leslie last fall when I was in London–we spoke a couple of times and he came to a couple of workshops. This morning he published a reflection on Teach Like a Champion and the ideas behind it in the Guardian.
I was very happy to see the work my team and I do described in depth–rather than, say, 140 characters–and I was even happier to see Ian spend a lot of time describing videos of Ashley Hinton and Maggie Johnson. They’re wonderful, humble, reflective teachers and deserve recognition, as does the process of studying their work deeply.
It struck me that not everyone who read the article would have access to the videos he described so I wanted to share them here:
First, here’s the video of Ashley using non-verbal interventions to keep 100% of her kids stay on-task and productive without breaking the thread (or positivity) of her instruction. You might start by just counting the number of small non-verbal corrections she makes as she works.
Second, here’s Maggie’s amazing Wait Time video where she disciplines herself to wait 12 seconds before calling in a student as she discusses To Kill a Mockingbird.
Is there a password for that first video?
sorry. having some trouble w our videos. we’ll get working on it.
